What to wear – “the rush outfit” formula

Have you ever needed a not too fancy outfit that had a little extra something, but were at a loss on where to start? Have you ever wanted to be comfortable running errands and such, and yet your outfit ends up being uninterestingly comfortable? Have you ever thought to wear something casual, but ended up taking too long trying to put a spin on it?

It’s just me then. 🙂

Anywho, I’ve been there plenty a time. And that’s how I came up with this “formula”.

It’s really basic, but it has saved me so much time on those days when I want to look low maintenance with moderate style.

And the formula is *drum roll please*…

Solid+solid+print = casual style.

Of course there are all sorts of cheats and tricks that can make this basic formula, your own. But I’ll get to that later. For now, let’s get right into the outfits.

Outfit 1: The stripetacular outfitIMG_8950

Obviously the striped vest top is the centerpiece of this very simple and casual ensemble. They add the little extra something to what would have other wise been  – jeans, a vest top and flats.

The black and white vest top against the base of light blue jeans, is just unexpected enough to be interesting. The white flats add a final touch, to an outfit that would have been super simple, but for the stripes.IMG_8956

Worn on a sunny day, make sure to wear sunscreen… 🙂

Solid coloured pants +solid coloured shoes + print top.

Time taken to pull together: less than a minute.

Outfit 2: Just scarfilicious.IMG_9088

Here, neutral pants in black, with a solid bright coloured sweater and neutral nude flats would have been fine on their own. But throw on a scarf with a print and vibrant colours and suddenly the outfit is a level up.

A couple of things to note. The scarf has touches of the colour of the sweater and the shoes, which acts as a unifying factor. The gorgeous texture on the sweater also adds visual interest to the outfit.

All these things help the casual meet style.IMG_9066

This will definitely keep you “hot” on a cool day.

Solid coloured pants +solid coloured sweater+ solid coloured shoes + print scarf.

Time taken to put together: 1 minute.

Outfit 3: You’ve got to print to be mint.IMG_9005

Here’s where things get serious!!! Hehe…

Jokes aside. This outfit makes me smile. Because if there’s one thing I love about style rules, it’s that I have a lot fun breaking them and doing it well.

In this outfit, there are two prints instead of one.

A grey and black checked shirt paired with grey jeans, with printed maroon, dark gold and black “ngomas”  (a.k.a the most comfortable shoes ever!!!). The two prints are separated by a neutral (the grey jeans). The shoe print is small and subtle, leaving the checked print to showstop. And they both have a base of black which ties it all in. And that’s why this outfit, in this particular combination, works!!!IMG_9019

It’s fantastic casual cool.

Solid coloured pants +printed top +printed shoes.

Time taken to put together: 3-4 minutes

Hope this helps you out in one way or another. Please remember that style is about discovering the parts that work for you. And that works for any formula. Totally different from mathematics (If only it were the same :-))

To share is to care.

You are a child of the Most High God. You have Him in you. You are loved.

And without further ado, here are the outfits.

Outfit 1: Manly pink

Paired a light pink shirt with dark rinse jeans and a casual grey coat. The pocket square adds a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ while tying in the brown belt and brown dress shoes. You don’t need to try so hard to look so good.

Outfit 2: Simplicity sells

Dark brown pants, light grey mandarin collar shirt with a grey belt and grey shoes (with striped socks :-)) to tie it all together. Sometimes when you’re in doubt. Go simple. It’s better the good outweigh the not so good.

Outfit 3: Grey is fancy

Paired a cyan blue shirt with grey dress pants and a grey cardigan. The brown shoes and belt, added a touch of something to the look. Bringing in the “dressed up” factor. 11

Just goes to show you. Looking good is all about the little details that make a big impact.

Outfit 4: Dark edgings

White pants, light blue mandarin collar shirt, black blazer and cool black shoes, bring this outfit home. Keeping the base light with dark toppings makes for an interesting combination. Just because you’re casual doesn’t mean you need to lack polish.

A big thank you to Irungu and Steve. They made this and the last post possible. I thank God for them. Incredible men.

Hope this will inspire you in one way or another.

You are gorgeous. You are imaginative. You are smart.
